There you are at church, and worship begins, but you are not feeling it. No awe of God. No love for him. Nothing.
What should you do? Should you go through the motions anyway? Should you leave and come back next Sunday for another try?
What should you do?
In the book of James, the Bible tells us that we should wait for God’s promises like a farmer waits for his harvest. Now, I’ve never seen a farmer plant a crop and then worry night and day about whether or not it’s going to come up. He doesn’t lose sleep thinking, “Oh, I hope that my corn is going to take root. Please, God, let my corn bring a harvest.” No, he waits with confidence, knowing that the harvest will come. He does his part, and he knows that seed will produce a good crop.
In the same way, we should wait confidently for the promises of God. We have to stand firm on His Word. It’s not enough to just hope that your situation is going to turn around. Instead of the attitude, “I hope I get well,” have the attitude of confidence and say, “Thank You, Lord, that I am getting well.” Start waiting like the farmer. Wait with a knowing. Wait with confidence. Be sure that as you put God’s Word into practice, just like the farmer, you will see that harvest of blessing in your own life in return.

Every day, you and I will be tempted to waste the precious life God has given us. The book of Proverbs is filled with wisdom to help us navigate these daily pressures and impulses. Proverbs 3:5–6 — two of the most popular verses in the Bible — offer three steps for experiencing as much of God’s grace as possible today.
Step 1: Bank your life on the promises of God.
Step 2: Refuse to be self-reliant.
Step 3: At every turn, turn to God.

— Proverbs 20:30 (via simply-divine-creation)
I will trust in You
Even in the moments I can’t find you
And I will hold onto your promises of love
You’ve never failed before
I know You can hear me
When the silence is deafening
Even though You seem far away
And I know You’re here with me
But I just need the faith to see
Nothing can separate me from Your love

Do you need your strength renewed today? The scripture tells us that when we hope in the Lord, that’s exactly what will happen—our strength will be renewed. If you’ve grown weary and tired, overwhelmed by the cares of this world, it’s a clear sign that you need to change what you’re putting your hope in. Are you putting your hope in your job? The government? The economy? Another person? Those are all things that will change. But when you hope in the Lord, you are investing in the Rock of Ages! He never changes! He is the only solid foundation for your soul.
Today, find strength by simply putting your hope in Him. Start by declaring out loud, “God, I place my hope in You. I trust that You are working behind the scenes in my life. I choose to rest in You.” Then, feed your hope and faith by meditating daily on the scriptures. As you renew your mind with the Word of God, you’ll find strength, you’ll find hope, and you’ll find His victory all the days of your life!
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ.
